Tuesday - Wednesday Workshops
3:00pm - 4:30pm
Wednesday Only - "Women's Open Forum Q&A" with Cheryl Brodersen, Joy Welsh and Vicki Bentley
3:00pm - 4:30pm
Tuesday only - "Understanding & Responding to the Gay Christian Perspective" with Dr. Gerry Breshears and Pastor Justin Thomas
Questions about homosexuality, same sex attraction and gender confusion have erupted, leading churches to be labeled as bigoted, repressive, and dangerous. Too many churches have reacted in a way that confirms that judgment in the minds of many. In our workshop, we will look at biblical foundations and wise pastoral strategies for engaging these questions with a goal of ministering a Jesus centered gospel that speaks mercy and healing to hurting and broken people.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
Wednesday only- "Women in Leadership & Biblical Complementarianism" with Dr. Gerry Breshears
Shall we ordain women? Can women be pastors? Such questions are deeply emotional and very polarizing. We will examine three major views held by Bible believing leaders and explore a variety of passages asking which view accounts for the most biblical data with the fewest difficulties, knowing good and godly people will connect the dots in different ways after agreeing on central truths. We will conclude with practical strategies for applying the answers in ways that honor Bible as well as both men and women.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"Leading People Toward Understanding and Experiencing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit" with Pastors Wayne Taylor and Ray Bentley
Pastors Wayne and Ray will be sharing from the scriptures how you can give maximum opportunity for the Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit to actively work in your Church community. They will also share personal stories of how the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit can be included in the flow of a service. There will also be a question and answer time where we can have a healthy discussion. If ever there was a time we needed a fresh outpouring of the Spirit of the living God into our Churches, now is that time.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"Urban Ministry: Gentrification, Globalization, Mass Incarceration, and More" with Pastors Aaron Campbell and Ray Dash
With gentrification and globalization, even the very definition of "urban ministry" is growing more complex. What are the many moving parts that now constitute urban ministry' and how does one even know who to serve first? More so, what does the Bible say about urban ministry? And what are some of the sure biblical methods that will never fail us? Join us to have such questions (and more) addressed and have your biblical passion for the cities ignited with a track list of unforgettable testimonies-from the roughest "hoods," to the college campuses, to the corporate spaces.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"Why Does God Allow Ministry Leaders to Suffer" with Pastor Ed Taylor
This workshop will explore the realities of suffering within the context of serving Jesus Christ in ministry. We hope through Bible study and healthy dialogue to encourage one another in the Lord and leave with a greater expectation of being used for His Kingdom, despite our daily challenges, pains, and sufferings. It's ok to hurt and still serve the Lord!
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"From Destination to Direction: Developing a Discipleship Pathway" with Pastor and CoDirector of New Churches, Daniel Im
Is it working? Are you developing disciples? How are you sure? What's your metric for maturity or success? In this workshop, you will audit your current method of discipleship to uncover whether or not it's working and learn what you can do to more faithfully make disciples that make disciples that make disciples.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"The Pathology of Moral Failure: and the Path to Restoration" with Pastors Richard Cimino and Chris McCarrick
All of us have heard the stories of lives and churches wrecked by moral failure within church leadership. Some of us know men who have fallen, know their wives and children, know those who served alongside of them, know people in those churches, and we're at a loss for words to describe the carnage that followed. Perhaps some of us are the ones who have fallen. This workshop will include two 15-20 minute talks punctuated and followed by questions, conversation, prayer, moral failure that wasn't talked about, and give personal input on the subject with everyone in the room.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"Thinking Theologically about Corporate Worship" with Pastor Char Brodersen
Should Pragmatism, Culture or Theology drive the Church's Liturgy? The answer: Yes. But the order is vitally important. Come listen and discuss how we can develop rich, theologically stimulating, culturally relevant, engaging gatherings for the people of God.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"Cross-Cultural Ministry and the Unfinished Task" with Pastor and Director of Shepherd's Staff Missions Facilitators, Jeff Jackson
To finish the task of making disciples from among all people groups; many of whom now live in our local neighborhoods, understanding the basics of cross-cultural ministry is crucial. This workshop will explain what those basics are, along with how to present facets of the Gospel we don't normally emphasize, but which connect much more easily with those from Non-Western cultures.
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"Ministry Methods & Cultural Adaptation" with Pastors Brian Brodersen, Bill Welsh, and Nate Holdridge
The Gospel is truly "One-Size-Fits-All", our method of delivering the Good News is not. In this workshop, we will discuss 4 stages of cultural adaptation in developing appropriate ministry models: "Observe, Prepare, Engage, and Nurture".
3:00pm - 4:30pm
"Culture, Art, Theology & the Prophetic Voice of the Church" with Pastor, Artist and Founder of Humble Beast, Thomas Terry
