Vicki has been married to Ray Bentley, senior pastor of Maranatha Chapel, for thirty-nine years.
The language of heaven is a language of promises. They are the currency of heaven—God’s intent. His promise says, “This is who I am for you” (it’s personal); “This is what I want you to be” (it’s practical); “This is what you can expect from Me in the situations you are facing now” (it’s His priority). God is a promise maker and a promise keeper. As we “Taste and See” from Psalm 34 who we need to become, His Word will make its home in us and enable us to fulfill our destiny in reaching this lost and longing world.
With over forty years in ministry, we will talk about what we've learned so far, including:
In this workshop we will discuss the secret of maintaining a passion for Jesus, your husband, the ministry, and the body of Christ. Come and gain fresh insights into stoking the embers of passion through personal devotions, fellowship, and fervent prayer.
Part one of this two-part workshop will first address Color, Class, and Culture Clashes: the multi-ethnic ministry in divisive times.
Sometimes we feel inadequate for the works the Lord has called us to walk in. We can be intimidated, insecure, overwhelmed, or compare ourselves with others we consider more qualified. What truths did God speak to some of His leaders when they felt they were no match for the tasks at hand?
(She looks like a Sea Turtle with mud all over)
Cathy Taylor will be covering all the real, but oftentimes, false expectations of the pastor’s wife. What does the Word of God say concerning these special women? What are the struggles that befall them, as well as all the blessings? We will be diving into the Word and exploring this glorious honor, yet sometimes burdensome reality, of being a pastor’s wife.
In part two of this workshop, we will discuss the Necessity of Urban Church Planting and Partnering: What it looks like from A to Z, and how churches can work together to help catalyze city-wide gospel movements.
Ladies, come have tea with Cheryl Brodersen + Friends. Take some time to enjoy tasty treats with like-minded ladies. Wednesday June 28th at 3:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall.
Sexual identity is one of the most relevant topics of our day. Most know someone who is gay. How can Christians better engage with our loved ones and friends in the LGBT community? How does the gospel (sin, repentance, and redemption) influence the conversation around sexual identity? Without any compromise of truth or grace, Dr. Christopher Yuan combines his life experiences and his theological training in biblical languages to bring a fresh and unique perspective on this important topic.
Unity. We all believe in it but what does it look like and how does it honestly happen? What if interchurch unity was actually a vital, practical strategy to advance the fingerprints of God in our communities? This workshop will focus on how we can advance God's presence in our communities by joining forces with other pastors and churches. Pastoring can be a team sport (different churches wearing the same jersey) rather than competing with one another. Let's explore the possibilities together.
Pete Nelson, Char Brodersen, and Mike Neglia will lead an engaging and interactive workshop examining the motives for Christ-centred preaching, some methods and principles that are useful for handling Scripture, and some practical examples of how to preach Christ from a variety of passages.
Why is God permitting an increasing number of people from other countries, languages, religions, and cultures to begin a new life in your church's local community? Are there facets of the gospel that we don't normally emphasize that may resonate with them? This workshop is designed to provide answers to those questions, along with some practical steps to help you package the gospel in a way that will be more inviting to your neighbors from the nations.
We will be discussing the importance of being creative when planning an outreach. Some of the focus points will be connecting with the culture without compromising the essentials of the gospel and how to be effective in reaching the local neighborhood. We’ll also talk of different approaches to outreach, such as: follow-up, getting the whole church involved, and more. Pastor Tommy Cota and Pastor David Trujillo will share of their experiences—the good, the bad and the ugly.
This workshop will be a discussion of the historical and theological survey of the land and the people of Israel from Abraham to the formation of the modern Nation of Israel.
Pastoral transition is inevitable for every church. Sooner or later, if the Lord tarries, there needs to be a pastoral succession plan in place in order for any church to survive. In this workshop, we will be discussing transition strategy from the perspective of the pastor transitioning out and the pastor transitioning in. The panel of pastors leading this workshop have experience in transition in many contexts: such as a large church with an established staff, a small church that requires a bi-vocational pastor, and even an overseas, cross-cultural church plant transitioning to a local pastor. This workshop will include a time for Q&A.
The principle work of pastors is the proclamation and exposition of God’s Word. By it, God is glorified, the church is edified, and the world is confronted with the saving gospel of Christ. In this workshop, we will address the practical matters of biblical preaching and teaching. Our aim is to encourage and help pastors and church leaders to effectively prepare and proclaim God’s Word in God’s power to those who are believers in Jesus and to those who are not. Topics will include: “Listening to God’s Spirit in the biblical text,” “How to develop an expository, gospel-centered sermon,” “How to prepare for a systematic verse-by-verse teaching through the Old and New Testament books of the Bible,” and “Above all, ‘Preach Christ.’”
We will take a look at the big picture in light of what has been happening in the world and at God’s perspective: How we should feel, think, and most importantly, what our actions should be.
“Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people" (Matthew 9:35).
In this workshop, we will discuss the challenges of small-town dynamics and the effects that it can have on the pastor and ministry. Whether you’ve relocated and are planting in a new small town, or are homegrown and pastoring, this workshop is for you!
Some Qs we will discuss: Why is this even a topic? Do (or should) issues such as accountability and “being an example” become even more magnified in a small town? What does it mean to assimilate into the culture? What about my relationship with other ministers/ministries in my small town? What would the Lord consider to be a “successful” small-town ministry? We will attempt to tackle these and other questions during our time together. It is my prayer that you will leave the workshop encouraged in the Lord!
When we think of pastoral ministry, we think of things like sermon preparation, preaching and teaching, outreach and mission; we think of impacting our communities and the world with the gospel. We rarely ever think seriously about the reality of suffering in the ministry. In this workshop, Pastors Brian Brodersen and Richard Cimino will share how the teaching of Scripture, the subsequent history of the church, and years of pastoral ministry affirm the words of the apostles: “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God" (Acts 14:22).
The call to be familiar with the gospel of Jesus Christ and to communicate it daily is a huge blessing. At the same time, familiarity with the gospel is a grave danger to the heart of every pastor. Come and understand that danger and what you can do to protect your heart from it.
Developing and maintaining a healthy friendship between the worship leader and the pastor, while having a united vision for the ministry, can make a powerful impact on the life and vibrancy of any church. We will be talking through the importance of that vital relationship as well as the practical side of communication and implementing vision. Scott has served under Brian for the last seventeen years at CCCM and hopes to bring encouragement and experience to the subject.
Spiritual warfare begins with evangelism and discipleship and goes on to helping people traumatized by involvement with the demonic. Knowing the types and limits of satanic stratagems against Christians and the church is essential in our increasingly pagan society. From a strong biblical and theological foundation, we will develop practical methodologies to help people find freedom from spiritual bondage.
